| I just realized that I did not post anything about Christmas. It wasn't that the holiday was canceled, however, I was sick. Again. Dammit.
Ed and I drove down to the Bay Area on Christmas Eve. And on the way down, I was feeling fine. Ed had been sick for the last few days, but I was doing okay. We showed up at my grandparents at around six, and then suddenly, I started feeling flushed. Within forty-five minutes, I had managed to become feverish. An hour into the festivities, I had become so ill that my family decided to declare me a one-woman plague. On the positive side, as Typhoid Mary, I only had to spend two hours with my family when I was feeling quite unprepared to handle them.. On the negative side, this meant I was not allowed to hug family members goodbye, for fear of infecting them. Christmas Eve was less than ideal.
Christmas day, however, was a different story. For reasons too complex to get into right now, my mother fully expected around 10 to 15 people to show up to Christmas dinner. Instead, two people showed up. Luckily for everyone involved, they were my Great-Uncle Carl and my Uncle Danny. The six of us had a great Christmas (we watched a spaghetti western that was hilarious).
When it comes to my family, often less is more.
