Journal in absentia
Well tonight I hung out with sterling for the last time before he heads home. We spent a good part of the time going over our misgivings regarding the Michael visit. Sterling isn't too happy with things (Me either for that matter). When discussing MIchael's failings in personal connections, Sterling mentioned that Michael's idealization of women was potentially linked to his geekiness. Stating that Irene was the one exception. He then proceeded to hazard why this was... and here is where I made my big mistake of the night. I told him that Michael liked Irene a lot, but didn't have very complimentary things to say about her, when he pressed, I told him the Truth: Michael thinks Irene is stupid. Of course sterling was very upset and the rest of the evening was colored by that. He started telling me that she wasn't the kind of person who had to impress you with her intelligence and maybe she did talk cutsey... and so on and so forth. He was very hurt. He hurt my feelings too, on accident of course. He was directing this whole lecture at me, and it felt like he was telling me that I was one of those people, those people who do let you know that they are smart, not like his girlfriend. Anyone who knows me, knows I am smart, it is not a secret. It took a large effort on my part not to cry at the table, I didn't and I had him change the subject, after that it was nice. we saw Yojimbo (sorry horrible spelling), it wasn't that great, but whatever I like sterling and so it was cool.
PS he loved his movie (I got him Better off Dead)... but didn't get me anything. which is cool... I mean I just wanted to get him something... but kind of strange being as I know he had just gone shopping for gifts that day and he isn't poor (at least I don't think he is, I could be wrong here).
