| | So, I rediscovered the Song of the Lioness series (Tamara Pierce, teen series). I loved this series when I was younger, but now reading it (probably a decade later), I totally have a different opinion about it. Or to be more specific: I think differently about the romantic side of it. I still love the plot, and all of the fighting and the magic, its the love story that I reexamine.
Should you not be interested in reading more, well, uh, don't read any more.
See, our heroine (Alanna of Trebond) pretends to be a boy so that she can become a knight. Through her journies she has three love interests: Prince Jonathan, the young dashing (fabulously rich and powerful) one, the Dragon (Liam?), the dangerous and powerful one, and George, the older rogue. Now, when I was younger I rooted for Jonathan, he's the youngest and the -prince-... I was so annoyed that that didn't happen. I wasn't so into Liam, because, well, he was so unpredictable, and a jerk, and welll yeah unpredictable jerk, I was glad when that didn't happen. I was annoyed that she ended up with George, he's -old- (not really, only six years, but when you're eleven that's a huge difference), plus he kept seeming to want to -tame- Alanna. True, he was the king of thieves, but... I guess the age threw me (he meets her when she's 11 and he's 17, but a seasoned 17). Now reading it again, I think George is the obvious choice, Jonathan is a brat, and both him and Liam were too much like Alana, they'd argue and fight forever(plus Liam would shag anything that moved, you just knew it). George loved her enough to wait for her to come back, he didn't want to tame her, he wanted to start a real life with her. I was all excited to watch this romance bloom this time around, he may be the king of thieves, but he's a good man, which is more than can be said for the Shang Dragon and the Prince.
I think this might mean something at least mildly significant in regards to my outlook on life... but I'm not sure what it is.
Anyway enough of that, I have two days off in a row, I'm excited!
