3 post day!
| Happy Christmas, Internet!
I am at my parents house, having just returned from my grandparents. I made out like a bandit, I did not only get a sweater, I got -two- (and various other very nice gifts). The food was plentiful (too plentiful), there were gin and tonics (two) and I saw my uncle Ted and his wife Ann. I've never met Ann before (I knew his first wife Anna quite well), and she is -delightful-, she's a charming woman who speaks fairly decent English, and makes up for what she lacks with immense enthusiasm. I should mention that my uncle lives in Thailand and his wife is Thai.
Things I learned tonight: 1. the Thai word for 'pumpkin' (and also any other type of squash, including greenbeans which are known as 'long green squash with beans in them') is not repeatable in polite English speaking company. 2. Ann either does not know the meaning of 'whisper' or she cannot do it. She kept exclaiming instead of whispering " fák tong" to people. 3. Steven must really think he likes us, because he just committed himself to us (and to Roxanne) for the rest of his life. The wedding will be in a few years (August 9th 2009). It makes me positively sick, and I'm not sure how much is "envy" persay as a profound feeling of "it's not fucking fair."
I hate being single for the holidays, I hate it.
