Yarn Adventures
| So, being unemployed... has been giving me waay too much time to fill.
I've been to an eye appointment, and a dentist appointment (guess what! The blinding headaches I've been having are probably because I'm wearing ten year old glasses that are laughably too weak for me, and because my wisdom tooth grew in -sideways- and is impacted in my jaw). Good news, everybody! I have healthy (if receded) gums!
Also, Leningrad Cowboys cover of Gimme All Your Lovin' is -hilarious- (by the by, that really is the Red Russian Army Choir).
ALSO! You can dye wool yarn with (wait for it, wait for it...)
KOOL-AID!
I've been having a really great time of it (it's crazy easy, one ounce of white wool yarn plus one packet of the color of your choice, simmer in a covered pot on your stove for like fifteen minutes [don't boil it, that will make the yarn unspin itself]. Or if you're really lazy, put the yarn, dye and water into a microwave safe tub and microwave two minutes at a time. When your water has become clear [or in the case of the lemonade based Kool-Aids, cloudy white] you take the yarn out, rinse it in warm water and hang it out to dry over night). Nothing makes you feel quite the delinquint as buying 13 packets of Kool-Aid and a Turkey baster and NOTHING ELSE. Our bathroom is full of drying hanks of yarn in psychedelic colors. Do you know which of our local grocery stores has the greatest variety of Kool-Aid? The Soviet Store (Win-Co, trust me, it's employee owned and stocked to the skies with non-brand... pretty much everything. It has a distinctly Socialist feel, plus they make you bag your own food). I mean, I have no idea when Cherry Red is going to work itself into my crafting projects, but should I ever need to say... crochet Skittles or something, I'm ready.
If I can be bothered I'll post pictures later.
