Amber and the terrible horrible no good very bad day

Man, my yesterday from five am onwards was a nightmare

Well it all began at five thirty am today . I woke up after two hours of sleep, I finished my little personal statement (it's not bad)take a shower and get ready to go. By the time I leave it's like 7am. It's -pouring- rain out, then I head into the mountains. The rain is super hard and super scary (cars keep blinding me with spray). But I get to donner pass (the highest elevation) and it's not snowing, just raining like a motherfucker. It should have only taken me half an hour, but it's like after eight am now.
THEN, my left windshield wiper starts being -weird-. It stops going all the way to the window. I think well, I can still -mostly- see; then it starts -over- compensating. Now I can't see the -middle- of the road (kind of important). So I stop the car by the side of the road push the windshield wiper down. But, it just keeps getting worse, faster. Now I've barely gone a mile and had to pull over four times. It may be raining outside, but it's -fucking- cold. So, I stop at Donner Pass rest stop, and I figure, shit, I can't really go on now, so I call Frank, telling him to come get me; he shows up at a little before ten am. We discuss what to do, and he offers to drive me to Davis and back (from donner it's about a two hour car ride... if conditions are good). But we can make it! So I hop in his truck and we get going. BUT about a mile away from the rest stop I realize I GRABBED THE WRONG FOLDER. So I have all the writing for the WRONG professor. SO we try and turn around. We get off going the opposite way at the rest stop. It's not the same one, the rest stops on the opposite sides of the free way DON"T connect. By the time we make it back to the correct reststop heading the right way, it's 10:15. Frank is -tired- (I woke him up) and the weather is miserable. so we don't say a word and just drive on in awful (now with the right folder). I spend a good twenty minutes on his cell trying to reach my professor to tell her to be sure to wait until noon, because now we're looking like we won't make it. Once I get the number for the operator (411 kept giving me a fax line) and call her, I tell her what's going on, and she tells me she has to leave -right- at noon. So... we start driving faster, even though some of the time the tires aren't connecting with the road. I make it to her place at 11:55... SHE'S WITH SOMEONE ELSE.

So I have to wait, luckily the interview goes all right. But then she tells me she's horrified that I came all the way from Reno to see her. Luckily it's useful for her, or I would have killed her. So, after wandering around Davis looking for somewhere to eat (not saying a word to one another, we're both stressed and sick of rain) we turn around to come home. I have work at five pm, it's now one. More rain, more awful, we buy windshield wipers. When we get to the right facing reststop again, it's like three pm, I figure I am exhausted I don't want to go to work, so I call out (need to call out two hours before). We get to my car, put on new wipers. The Same problem as before. Frank and I agree, I'll try and drive it home, and just keep pulling over (the rain is light). He leaves and I have 31 miles to home.

I end up having to pull over every 100yds, which I do okay for a while, until the rain picks up, and I nearly run off the road (have only ten wipes between stops, tried judiciously using them, on my last wipe as I was pulling over, a semi came dumped so much water on me I couldn't see anything, nearly drove down a large ditch) So, I call call AAA. The lady spends twenty minutes on the phone trying to figure out what city has jurisdiction over me. There are no cities around, I'm between exits somewhere, staring a 200 yrd stretch of highway that has no shoulder anymore on a teensy bump of shoulder. Once she figures out who gets me, I have to wait in the car (takes about 40 minutes), soaked to the bone (from all the stopping) in the freezing cold, feeling the car rock as every vehicle passes me. Finally the guy comes, takes one look at my insane wipers, whips out a ratchet and fixes it right away. The rain is still blinding but at least I can see... so I crawl home in my car. It ends up taking me another hour to go 20 miles. I get home waaay after five pm go home, feeling sick to my stomach and pass out, until about eleven pm

PS anyone ever read the book to which the title of this blog refers (stupid ending on a preposition, makin' English difficult)?

I have read this book that your blog title refers to. If I recall correctly, it's about a little boy named Alexander, whose own bad day pales in comparison to yours. God DAMN Amber. I hope you took a long bubble bath or something after all that.
