| My good friend and fuzzy companion, Adrian, died today. Well, we discovered him today. Unlike the rats who are always easy to spot the Old Man was wont to sleep all day on his increasingly large stash of food. Death is an indignity that comes to us all, and thankfully his wasn't so bad. He was a good hamster, he loved crunchy things, in his prime he trained for the hamster olympics (he used to propel himself around the ceiling of his cage by his forelegs). He also loved to run in his ball, he would always wind up in the kitchen, banging himself against the cupboards again and again. He was a sweet little guy, friendly even to his brief housemate Janeway (not cagemate, of course, but he never bit her when they were out for free time together. And that's saying something for a hamster). He liked being held, and he was a soft little thing. In old age, he slowed down, was more inclined to amble than run, and less able to grasp new concepts (like stairs, he couldn't get the stairs in his new highrise apartment to save his life. Up was fine, down meant he plunged head first off the landing). Ed and I knew the end was coming, every day felt like borrowed time, but at two and half he lived a long time. Adrian was my friend, and I will miss him.
